Abstract: Reports observation of three instances of intraspecific predation and cannibalism among polar bears (Ursus maritimus) in Beaufort Sea between 24 January-10 April 2004. Instances include killing of parturient female bear at maternal den. Hypothesizes that nutritional stress related to longer ice-free seasons is leading to recently observed incidents of cannibalism.
