Abstract: Outlines components of algorithm to describe spatial and temporal variation of reflectivity on glaciers, and its calibration for use in glacier melt models, based on fieldwork conducted on Peyto Glacier to study influences on reflectivity and provide ground truth for satellite-based radiometers. Focusing on reflectivity of glacier ice (rather than snow), describes treatment of individual components of parameterisation, i.e., background reflectivity and its wavelength dependence, and changes with solar zenith angle, cloud cover and melting.
