Record #180064:

Radar measurements of ice thickness on Peyto Glacier - geophysical and climatic implications / Gerald Holdsworth, Michael N. Demuth, T.M.H. Beck.

Title: Radar measurements of ice thickness on Peyto Glacier - geophysical and climatic implications / Gerald Holdsworth, Michael N. Demuth, T.M.H. Beck.
Author(s): Holdsworth, Gerald.
Demuth, Michael N.
Beck, T. M. H.
Date: 2006.
Publisher: Saskatoon: National Water Research Institute
In: Peyto Glacier : one century of science. (2006.),
Abstract: Describes history of soundings of Peyto Glacier, first with portable hammer-seismic unit and subsequently with monopulse radar. Presents results of radar depth soundings and discusses their validation and application. Calculates at least 18% reduction in volume between 1966 and 1984. Discussses implications for studies of glacier dynamics, glacier response to climate change, proglacial hydrology, divide mechanics and ice core studies, and glacier geometry. Calculated 37-year response time to climate change exceeds 31-year length of current mass balance record.
