Record #180063:

The neoglacial history of Peyto Glacier / Brian H. Luckman.

Title: The neoglacial history of Peyto Glacier / Brian H. Luckman.
Author(s): Luckman, Brian H.
Date: 2006.
Publisher: Saskatoon: National Water Research Institute
In: Peyto Glacier : one century of science. (2006.),
Abstract: Notes Peyto valley provides most complete and complex record of glacier fluctuations from single site in Canadian Rockies. Describes studies of glacier fluctuations, including monitoring of terminus recession, dating of landforms of Little Ice Age (Cavell) advance, dendrochonology and dating of snag material in glacier forefield. Describes reconstruction of pre-18th century glacial history and identification of three separate events, ca. 2800 yr BP, 1600 yr BP and between 1246 and 1375 AD. Maximum Holocene extent occured between 1836 and 1846. Discusses implications of Peyto record for future glacier chronology studies in context of regional Holocene palaeoenvironmental history.
