Glacial landforms on German Bank, Scotian Shelf: evidence for Late Wisconsinan ice-sheeet dynamics and implications for the formation of De Geer moraines / Brian J. Todd, Page C. Valentine, Oddvar Longva, John Shaw.
Title: | Glacial landforms on German Bank, Scotian Shelf: evidence for Late Wisconsinan ice-sheeet dynamics and implications for the formation of De Geer moraines / Brian J. Todd, Page C. Valentine, Oddvar Longva, John Shaw. |
Author(s): | Todd, Brian J. Valentine, Page C. Longva, Oddvar. Shaw, John. |
Date: | 2007. |
In: | Boreas. (2007.), Vol. 36(2) (2007) |
Abstract: | Illustrates and describes geomorphology of major subglacial, ice-marginal and glaciomarine landforms on German Bank, based on digital evelation models derived from multibeam sonar data augmented by geophysical and geological data, and describes episodic movement of glacial ice on bank and correlates this with Late Wisconsinan glacial phases of Atlantic Canada. Identifies drumlins, megaflutes, lobate regional moraines, and De Geer moraines. Moraine pattern implies that, shortly after last maximum glaciation, tidewater ice sheet began to retreat north from bank, forming De Geer moraines at grounding line with at least one glacial re-advance during general retreat. Results indicate Laurentide Ice Sheet extended onto continental shelf. |
