| Abstract: | Investigates proglacial deposits from three independently dated sites in Swiss lowlands using optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) to test reliability of applied dating approach. Describes use of single-aliquot regenerative-dose technique to small aliquots of quartz and statistical to dating. Reports OSL ages in good agreement with independent age control and discusses remaining uncertainties. Results imply glaciers reached Swiss lowlands prior to 25 kyr ago. An OSL age of 70 kyr for proglacial outwash sediments suggests mid- Late Pleistocene presence of Rhône Glacier in Lake Neuchâtel area. |
