Abstract: Illustrates benefits of including results of spatial analyses of permafrost-landscape conditions in map legends when using GIS to create digital maps. Presents three examples, based on regional maps of Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous district showing: distribution and temperature of permafrost and thawed ground; seasonal freezing and thawing ground; and potential permafrost stability of landscapes to anthropogenous influences. Reproduces legends showing statistics of spatial distribution of permafrost parameters and describes determination of typical values.
