Abstract: Analyses evolution of seasonal freeze/thaw depths in Russia through changing climate of 20th and 21st century, using climate data simulated with HadCM3 GCM and comparing modelled characteristics with published observations. Calculates regionally averaged values of freeze/thaw depths for two vast regions, differentiated by presence or absence of permafrost in 0-3.2 m soil layer. Attempts to reproduce local freeze/thaw depth data over period 1956-1990. Predicts statistically significant anthropogenic effect in evolution of thawing depth from second half of 21st century. Simulates temperature profile through 0-30 m layer over 21st century for sites in West Siberia and Yakutiya.
