| Abstract: | Describes major stratotypes and stratigraphical terms for Quaternary in Germany, focusing on climatostratigraphical terms that relate to cold and warm stages and have been incorporated into regional chronostratigraphy. Papers describes Quaternary as chronostratigraphic unit (including English translation) and details stratigraphic terms for Quaternary of north German glaciation area, south German Alpine foreland and periglacial area in Germany, and biostratigraphical terms from mammal palaeontology for Pliocene and Pleistocene in Germany. Terminological description aims to reflect debate rather than be prescriptive. Includes for each term definition, first description, datings, type locality, stratigraphy, and comments. |
