| Abstract: | Reports estimation of age of narwhals (Monodon monoceros) from eyes collected from 75 specimens in west Greenland in 1993 and 2004. Age estimates are based on racemization of L-aspartic acid to D-aspartic acid in nucleus of eye lens. Using Bertalanffy growth model, estimates age at sexual maturity to be 6-7 years for females and 9 years for males. |
