Title: Возможные признаки и критерии образования катастрофических обвалов = Possible characteristics and criteria of the catastrophic fall formation
Title, transliterated: Vozmozhnye priznaki i kriterii obrazovanii︠a︡ katastroficheskikh obvalov = Possible characteristics and criteria of the catastrophic fall formation / I.M. Vas'kov.
Author(s): Vasʹkov, I. M.
Date: 2006.
Publisher: Vladikavkaz: Olimp
Language: Russian and English.
In: Preduprezhdenie opasnykh situat︠s︡iĭ v vysokogornykh raĭonakh. Doklady mezhdunarodnoĭ konferent︠s︡ii Vladikavkaz-Moskva, 23-26 Ii︠u︡ni︠a︡ 2004 g. = Proceedings of the International Conference on High Mountain Hazard Prevention, Vladikavkaz-Moscow, June 23-26, 2006. (2006.),
Abstract: Summarises statistics from ice-rock avalanche of Kolka Glacier in Caucasus in 2002 and compares with those of similar events elsewhere. Discusses factors involved in initiation and development of such catastrophic falls, grouped under geological, orographic and geomorphological, and climatic factors. Discusses indirect signs of possible past ice-snow collapses, e.g, mountain rivers emerging to surface as powerful springs, flat valley bottoms with dispersed large blocks, or location of ancient settlements at bottom and on lateral slopes of valley.
