Природная катастрофа на леднике Колка 20 сентября 2002 года - внезапный газодинамический выброс ледника = Natural catastrophe of the Kolka glacier in September 20, 2002 - a sudden outburst of the glacier

Title: Природная катастрофа на леднике Колка 20 сентября 2002 года - внезапный газодинамический выброс ледника = Natural catastrophe of the Kolka glacier in September 20, 2002 - a sudden outburst of the glacier
Title, transliterated: Prirodnai︠a︡ katastrofa na lednike Kolka 20 senti︠a︡bri︠a︡ 2002 goda - vnezapnyĭ gazodinamicheskiĭ vybros lednika = Natural catastrophe of the Kolka glacier in September 20, 2002 - a sudden outburst of the glacier / M.G. Berger.
Author(s): Berger, M. G.
Date: 2006.
Publisher: Vladikavkaz: Olimp
Language: Russian and English.
In: Preduprezhdenie opasnykh situat︠s︡iĭ v vysokogornykh raĭonakh. Doklady mezhdunarodnoĭ konferent︠s︡ii Vladikavkaz-Moskva, 23-26 Ii︠u︡ni︠a︡ 2004 g. = Proceedings of the International Conference on High Mountain Hazard Prevention, Vladikavkaz-Moscow, June 23-26, 2006. (2006.),
Abstract: Argues Kolka glacier ice-rock avalanche had no precedent in modern glaciology and was difficult to explain conventionally, but simple to explain in terms of recurring gas-dynamic surges. Describes in detail proposed process, in which subglacial accumulation of post-volcanic and other natural gases results in gas pressure reaching critical level and catastrophic paroxysmal outburst occurring. Discusses likely post-2002 development, in which dense gas-proof glacier is re-established and gases accumulate over at least 50 years before any catastrophic event is possible. Recaps what author regards as auto-oscillations of Kolka glacier and misinterpretation of outburst as landslide, mechanical shock-landslip, avalanche, rapid sliding, mudflow, etc.
