| Abstract: | Quantifies areal changes of glaciers in several regions of Colombia (Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Sierra Nevada de Cocuy, Ruiz-Tolima Massif) and Venezuela (Pico Bonplad Massif) using historical data and satellite imagery to construct time series from early 1950s to 2004. Reviews known glacial history of sites and describes satellite image preprocessing and snow and ice classification using NDSI. Reports decline in glacial area in all four regions, discusses causes and potential sources of error. |
