| Abstract: | Reviews causes of settlement of banks built on permafrost and presents limitations of present evaluation methods for each cause. Uses two case studies, of a highway and of a railway on Qinghai-Tibet plateau, verifies three different processes (thaw settlement, creep and freeze-thaw cycling) and proposes use of equivalent permafrost table to help consider these interactive processes separately. |
