| Abstract: | Presents detailed description of glaciation of northern slope of Tabyn-Bogdo-Ola massif, western Mongolian and Russian Altai, based on field studies from 1999-2003. Identifies 14 glaciers with total area 25.75 km² and forming four isolated groups. Estimates firn line altitudes (average 3290 m) and establishes basic tendency toward glacier recession. Two glaciers are of valley type, the remainder hillside or hanging glaciers. Degree of recession is determined by morphology, with key factor for hillside glaciers being distance of their lower limit from structural lines of subglacial relief. Determines valley glacier recession of 9-19 m/yr. |
