| Abstract: | Uses results of geomorphologic, geological and hydrological studies of Putorana Plateau from 1997, 1999 and 2000 to infer that plateau glaciation at Last Glacial Maximum was characterised by ice caps and passive glaciers in north and outlet glaciers flowing predominantly southward along valleys. Large tectonic rifts (lakes Lama and Keta) were free of glacial ice according to analysis of lacustrine sediments and glacial complexes in tributary valleys. Outlet and valley glaciers dammed the lakes, increasing their levels by 30-40 m. Radiocarbon dating of organic remains in dams that blocked subglacial water bodies places time of deglaciation on Pleistocene-Holocene boundary. Does not rule out glacial expansion in Holocene. |
