Гигантская рябь течения: история исследований диагностика и палеогеографические значение

Title: Гигантская рябь течения: история исследований диагностика и палеогеографические значение
Title, transliterated: Gigantskai︠a︡ ri︠a︡bʹ techenii︠a︡: istorii︠a︡ issledovaniĭ diagnostika i paleogeograficheskie znachenie / A.N. Rudoĭ.
Translated title: Giant ripple marks: history of studies, diagnostics and palaeogeographical implication.
Author(s): Rudoĭ, A. N.
Date: 2006.
Language: Russian.
In: Materialy Gli︠a︡t︠s︡iologicheskikh Issledovaniĭ. (2006.), Vol. 101 (2006)
Abstract: Reviews understanding of giant ripple marks associated with outbursts from Pleistocene ice-dammed lakes. Discusses history of recognition, first in North America and more recently in Kuray depression in Altai mountains; associated field studies; reconstruction of Pleistocene lakes, diluvial floods and associated volumes and flow rates; ripple mark formation by these; and alternative explanations. Defines giant current ripples and summarises main diagnostic features, including 2-20 m wave height, 5-300 m wave length, orientation transverse to diluvial floods, and composition of wave crests. Identifies features as analogues of small sand ripples, placing them in group of scabland accumulative forms, and notes relevance to features on Mars and subglacial volcanic eruptions.
