Record #179809:

Certainty in digital elevation models of Axel Heiberg Island, Arctic Canada / Graham Cogley, F. Jung-Rothenhäsler.

Title: Certainty in digital elevation models of Axel Heiberg Island, Arctic Canada / Graham Cogley, F. Jung-Rothenhäsler.
Author(s): Cogley, Graham.
Jung-Rothenhäsler, F.
Date: 2004.
In: Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research. (2004.), Vol. 36(2) (2004)
Abstract: Analyses errors in several digital elevation models (DEMs) of part of Axel Heiberg Island. Demonstrates map reading error to be small in comparison with mapping error. Identifies three obstacles to formal description of total DEM error: no objective basis for partitioning mapping error between two maps of comparison pair; no satisfactory accommodation for gross errors; and, because of violation of usual statistical assumptions, definition of confidence regions narrower than 68% by an unknown amount.
