Record #179766:

Evidence for two highly differentiated herring groups at Goose Bank in the Barents Sea and the genetic relationship to Pacific herring, Clupea pallasi / Knut E. Jørstad.

Title: Evidence for two highly differentiated herring groups at Goose Bank in the Barents Sea and the genetic relationship to Pacific herring, Clupea pallasi / Knut E. Jørstad.
Author(s): Jørstad, Knut E.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic Publishers
In: Genetics of subpolar fish and invertebrates. (2004.),
Abstract: Presents data demonstrating existence of two highly genetically differentiated groups of herring in eastern Barents Sea in northeast Atlantic. Groups are fixed for alternative alleles at several allozymes, and highest genetic distance observed is approximately 1.5. One group is dominated by juveniles, and belongs to Norwegian Spring Spawners (NSS) stock; other group possibly belongs to one of "low vertebrae" herring groups found in Russian seas including White Sea and north-western coastal areas.
