Finds significant distinctions in types of winter-spring distribution of spotted seal in different areas in relation to specific features of ice regime and state of food supply. In both seas, spotted seal is typical phagophilic seal, confined to ice fields during pupping period, suckling and mating, and partially in moulting period. In Bering Sea it gravitates to near-edge of pack ice whereas in Sea of Okhotsk it gravitates towards deep water areas beneath ice in winter-spring period, hardly ever venturing further than 500 m isobath.
