Abstract: | Situation of Evenki in northern Chitinskaya Oblast' illustrates current social and economic problems of Russia, and need for stronger government regulations and national support for indigenous peoples. Outlines emergence of new enterprises involving indigenous peoples. Examines concept of "traditional" land use in present day context and indigenous economies in era of oil and gas. Looks at recent social trends in East Siberia and role of government regulation, in particular Federal Programs, in supporting indigenous population. |
