Abstract: Describes background to Soviet Union's 1937-38 aeronautical polar expeditions including flight of monoplane bomber (tyazhelyy bombardirovshchik) TB-3 no. 209 which disappeared in August 1937. Gives details of archaeological survey at Bukhta Teplits where wreckage of TB-3 was first noted and photographed by S. Barr in 1990 and later identified as TB-3 No. 210 which went to search for no. 209.
