Abstract: | Results of experiments in aquarium at Arctowski station show that starving resulted in body weight reduction and decrease in blood crude protein content of both males and females, which both also showed significant increase in glucose levels. Triacylglycerol was reduced significantly in females and highly significantly in males, and was accompanied by reduction in total cholesterol. HDL-cholesterol levels increased significantly in both males and females. Seawater in which fish were maintained was also assayed for various chemicals, and nitrogen and phosphorus levels were elevated relative to clean seawater. |
