Record #179671:

The breeding colony of ruddy turnstones (Arenaria interpres) in the eastern Canadian Arctic / Deborah E. Perkins, Paul A. Smith, H. Grant Gilchrist.

Title: The breeding colony of ruddy turnstones (Arenaria interpres) in the eastern Canadian Arctic / Deborah E. Perkins, Paul A. Smith, H. Grant Gilchrist.
Author(s): Perkins, Deborah E.
Smith, Paul A.
Gilchrist, H. Grant.
Date: 2007.
In: Polar Record. (2007.), Vol. 43(225) (2007)
Abstract: Reports studies made in 2002 and 2003 of breeding phenology, nesting success, nesting density and rates of predation of ruddy turnstones (Arenaria interpres) at East Bay, Southampton Island. Finds that ruddy turnstones initiate nests within 7 days of arrival in study area; that median date of incubation onset was same in 2002 and 2003, despite different spring snow conditions. Notes that nesting is at high densities and in semi-colonial groups with significantly aggregated distribution.
