Abstract: | Presents overview of critical elements lacking in management of Antarctic tourism under Antarctic Treaty System, examines relevant aspects of management systems that have arisen in South Georgia, Svalbard and Glacier Bay, Alaska, and discusses application of management measures in use elsewhere to Antarctic tourism. Includes management plans for landing sites; possible changes to use of designations such as Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA), Antarctic Specially Managed Area (ASMA) and Area of Special Tourist Interest (ASTI); levels of usage; monitoring for change caused by human activity; and arrangements for site recovery and remediation. |
