| Abstract: | Discusses 1998 assessment of Bering-Chukchi-Beaufort Seas stock of bowhead whales (Balaena mysticetus) conducted using Bayesian estimation framework. Proposes extension of modelling framework for this assessment, to include information on length-frequency and age-composition of harvests and detailed length-frequency information from photogrammetry studies. Results indicate that selectivity is not uniform, as assumed in previous assessments, but dome-shaped, with young animals most vulnerable to harvest. |
