The formation of ice from the infiltration of water into a frozen coarse grained soil / Walter J. Fourie, David L. Barnes, Yuri Shur.
Title: | The formation of ice from the infiltration of water into a frozen coarse grained soil / Walter J. Fourie, David L. Barnes, Yuri Shur. |
Author(s): | Fourie, Walter J. Barnes, David L. Shur, Yuri. |
Date: | 2007. |
In: | Cold Regions Science and Technology. (2007.), Vol. 48(2) (2007) |
Abstract: | Reports results of tests conducted to qualify impact of gradation, temperature, compaction and initial moisture content on formation of pore ice in coarse grained soils, as preparation for conceptual model of freezing mechanism in coarse grained soils. Notes importance of understanding formation of pore ice in coarse grained soils to geotechnical and geo-environmental projects (construction of roads, airstrips and gravel foundations, and treatment of contaminated soils in Arctic, sub-Arctic and northern regions). |
Notes: | Cold Regions Science and Technology. Vol. 48(2) :118-128 (2007). |
