520 3# ‡aDescribes three new species within haploniscid genus Mastigoniscus Lincoln, 1985, from material obtained in Weddell Sea during 2002 voyage of RV Polarstern to South Atlantic sector of Southern Ocean as part of ANDEEP expeditions: M. polygomphios, M. andeep and M. pseudoelegans. While males can be clearly allocated to different species, females proved to be problematic because they lack most of important diagnostic characters. Allocation of juvenile specimens was also difficult. Hence two further species are described, M. sp. A and sp. B, but remain unnamed due to lack of diagnostic characters. Genus is reported for first time from Southern Ocean and South Atlantic. Includes map showing currently known distribution of Mastigoniscus.
