| Abstract: | Estimates rates of transformation of organic matter in productive-destructive cycle in Arctic ecosystems based on studies in White, Barents and Norwegian seas. Measures activity of oxidised enzymes of electron-transport system (ETS) and of hydrolytic enzymes (protease and phosphatase). Measuring activity of enzymes ETS allows for calculation of rate of oxygen use, i.e. heterotrophic activity of microplankton. Compares rates of reactions, catalysed hydrolases with those catalysed by enzymes ETS, and rate of turnaround of phosphorous, nitrogen and carbon allows for assessment of full use of organic matter in syntrophy of Arctic seas ecosystems. |
