Analysis of the origin of water which forms large aufeis fields on the Arctic Slope of Alaska using ground and Landsat data / Dorothy Kay Hall.
Title: | Analysis of the origin of water which forms large aufeis fields on the Arctic Slope of Alaska using ground and Landsat data / Dorothy Kay Hall. |
Author(s): | Hall, Dorothy Kay. |
Date: | 1980. |
Publisher: | Baltimore, MD : |
Abstract: | Examines various hypotheses concerning origin of water forming large aufeis fields, using ground and satellite data for analysis. Imagery from Landsat Multispectral Scanner Subsystem satellite acquired each June from 1973-79 forms basis of location and measurement of maximum extent of aufeis on seven rivers on Arctic Slope of Alaska, and outline of aufeis is transferred onto 1:250,000 scale topographic maps. Meteorological data for same period is also graphically displayed with aufeis extent. Meltwater from aufeis cores is analysed. Results strongly favour groundwater origin of water, as drainage basin area does not correlate with areal extent of aufeis. |
