| Abstract: | Establishes carbon budget for outer region of Young Sound. Total carbon demand of benthos and pelagic grazing community (2,850 t C yr⁻¹) significantly exceeds primary production of system (1,110 t C yr⁻¹) with net heterotrophic system being in deficit (1,731 t C yr⁻¹). Independent measurements coupled to hydrodynamic model estimate that region has net import of organic material amounting to 2,436 t C yr⁻¹, with 60% being delivered from Greenland Sea and remainder from land. |
