Growth, production and carbon demand of macrofauna in Young Sound, with special emphasis on the bivalves Hiatella arctica and Mya truncata / Mikael K. Sejr, Peter B. Christensen.

Title: Growth, production and carbon demand of macrofauna in Young Sound, with special emphasis on the bivalves Hiatella arctica and Mya truncata / Mikael K. Sejr, Peter B. Christensen.
Author(s): Sejr, Mikael K.
Christensen, Peter B.
Date: 2007.
In: Meddelelser om Grønland. Bioscience. (2007.), Vol. 58 (2007)
Abstract: Examines composition, abundance and biomass of macrobenthos in outer part of Young Sound, using grab sampling and photography along six transects, each with depth range of 10 to 60 m. Finds species-rich fauna, dominated by brittle stars and bivalves. Estimates annual growth and production of two bivalve species, Mya truncata and Hiatella arctica, finding that both species exhibit growth patterns typical of Arctic (long life span and low annual growth). Estimates carbon demands of dominant species by three empirical models available in literature (and used to evaluate role of benthos in carbon cycling).
