Abstract: Reports that, in 2003, age-adjusted suicide rate in Alaska (20.2 per 100,000) was second highest in country; also that suicide rate among Alaska's Native population (35.1 per 100,000) was 1.7 times greater than rate among all Alaskans and 3.3 times greater than US all races rate. Examines suicide among Alaska Native males living in northern Alaska region, with aim of identifying frequency and nature of contact with medical staff during 12 months preceding suicide.
