| Abstract: | Report on visit in July 1957 to study economic and social lives of Koryaki in village Esso and in kolkhoz which is engaged in reindeer herding, hunting, fishing, livestock farming and market gardening. Gives details of economic value of individual sectors of kolkhoz. Notes that reindeer herding and hunting for furs are most profitable activities. Describes living conditions of indigenous population with examples of specific individuals living in yurts. Reports construction of new dwellings. Finds that educated Eveny engaged in teaching and similar occupations are paid less that Russian counterparts. |
