Isotopic analysis of the sources of organic carbon for zooplankton in shallow subarctic and Arctic waters / Milla Rautio, Warwick F. Vincent.
Title: | Isotopic analysis of the sources of organic carbon for zooplankton in shallow subarctic and Arctic waters / Milla Rautio, Warwick F. Vincent. |
Author(s): | Rautio, Milla. Vincent, Warwick F. |
Date: | 2007. |
In: | Ecography. (2007.), Vol. 30(1) (2007) |
Abstract: | Reports experiment to measure δ¹³C and δ¹⁵N isotopic signatures of pelagic and benthic particulate organic matter in shallow water bodies in northern Canada, and to determine relative transfer of material to zooplankton and other aquatic invertebrates. Results underline likely importance of benthic-pelagic coupling in tundra ecosystems for species that are traditionally considered pelagic and previously thought to be dependent only on phytoplankton as food source. |
