Abstract: Account of fate of Cook's expedition equipment and records, half of which was entrusted to Harry Whitney, deposited on ice-clad eastern shore of Smith Sound, north-west Greenland (owing to Peary's refusal to carry it on Roosevelt, and subsequently lost). Notes that Cook retained North Pole diary in his possession, copy of diary made at Cape Sparbo, and five observation field papers establishing position on pack ice of Arctic Ocean, and position at North Pole.
