Distribution and abundance of Steller sea lions, Eumetopias jubatus, on the Asian coast, 1720's-2005 / Vladimir N. Burkanov, Thomas R. Loughlin.

Title: Distribution and abundance of Steller sea lions, Eumetopias jubatus, on the Asian coast, 1720's-2005 / Vladimir N. Burkanov, Thomas R. Loughlin.
Author(s): Burkanov, Vladimir N.

Date: 2005.
In: Marine Fisheries Review. (2005.), Vol. 67(2) (2005)
Abstract: Analyses published and archived records for past 250 years to assess changes in distribution and abundance of Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) along Asian coast from Bering Strait to Korean Peninsula. Finds that northern extent of distribution has not changed but that southern extent has moved north by 500-900 km. Estimates total abundance in late 19th century at 115,000, reducing to 13,000 in late 1980s, and increasing since 1990s to 16,000.
