Abstract: | Describes project to "repatriate" skills involved in making traditional Gwich'in summer clothing outfit, by replicating 19th century example from Canadian Museum of Civilization's collection. Project involved forty seamstresses from Gwich'in communities manufacturing five multi-piece summer outfits: one for each of communities of Inuvik, Aklavik, Tsiigehtchic and Fort McPherson, and one for permanent collection of Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. |
