The effect of predation (current and historical) by humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) on fish abundance near Kodiak Island, Alaska / Briana H. Witteveen, Robert J. Foy, Kate M. Wynne.
Title: | The effect of predation (current and historical) by humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) on fish abundance near Kodiak Island, Alaska / Briana H. Witteveen, Robert J. Foy, Kate M. Wynne. |
Author(s): | Witteveen, Briana H. Foy, Robert J. Wynne, Kate M. |
Date: | 2006. |
In: | Fishery Bulletin. (2006.), Vol. 104(1) (2006) |
Abstract: | Reports use of models to examine potential effect of predation by humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae), consumption (kg of prey daily) and prey removal (kg of prey annually). Finds that current humpback whale population removes nearly 8.83 x 10⁶ kg of prey during five-month feeding season. |
