| Abstract: | Biography of polar explorer and researcher, professor at Leningrad University, first leader of first Northern Scientific-Commercial Expedition, and Director of Institut po Izucheniyu Severa. Samoylovich also led expeditions on icebreaker Krasin in search of Umberto Nobile's expedition lost in vicinity of Spitsbergen. In 1931 he was appointed scientific director of international organisation Aeroarctic on airship Graf Zeppelin. In 1938 he was arrested and executed as part of Stalin's purges. |
