Record #178843:
The internal drainage system of the lower Mittivakkat glacier, Ammassalik island, SE Greenland / Sebastian H. Mernild.
Title: | The internal drainage system of the lower Mittivakkat glacier, Ammassalik island, SE Greenland / Sebastian H. Mernild. |
Author(s): | Mernild, Sebastian H. |
Date: | 2006. |
In: | Geografisk Tidsskrift. (2006.), Vol. 106(1) (2006) |
Abstract: | Describes dye-tracer experiments carried out during late ablation period to illustrate end-of-summer internal drainage in lower part of ablation area of Mittivakkat glacier. Uses these to examine spatial and temporal size, structure and hydraulic response. Eight tests at five active moulins in August 2004. Based on observed transit velocity, dye recovery rate and dispersivity, identifies two distinct internal drainage paths; one through hydraulically efficient channelled (fast) drainage system, and another through relatively inefficient distributed (slow) system. Concludes steady state conditions of internal drainage system existed through measuring campaign. |
