Glaciarismo histórico en los Picos de Europa (NO de España). Factores condicionantes y deglaciation / J.J. González Trueba, E. Serrano.

Title: Glaciarismo histórico en los Picos de Europa (NO de España). Factores condicionantes y deglaciation / J.J. González Trueba, E. Serrano.
Translated title: Historical glaciation in the Picos de Europa (NW Spain). Conditioning factors and deglaciation.
Author(s): González Trueba, J. J.
Serrano, E.
Date: 2005.
Language: Spanish.
In: Boletín Glaciológico Aragonés. (2005.), Vol. 6 (2005)
Abstract: Notes Picos de Europa were only high mountain area of Cantabrian Range glaciated during Little Ice Age. Analyses inherited morphological features and historical documents to reconstruct and map last morphogenetic glacial phase, with six very small glaciers in highest cirques on Central and Western Massif of Picos de Europa. Results confirm small historical glacier advance characterized by very small glaciers below regional equilibrium line altitude of 2,600 m. These owed their existence to location 15 km from coast and topoclimatological factors (cirque topography, altitude, orientation, exposition) favouring avalanches or snow drift enhancing accumulation. Describes deglaciation process transforming these glaciers into non-dynamic glacier ice remnants.
