Record #178784:

Decomposition of macroalgae and the release of nutrient in Admiralty Bay, King George Island, Antarctica / Arkadiusz Nadzarek, Stanisław Rakusa-Suszczewski.

Title: Decomposition of macroalgae and the release of nutrient in Admiralty Bay, King George Island, Antarctica / Arkadiusz Nadzarek, Stanisław Rakusa-Suszczewski.
Author(s): Nadzarek, Arkadiusz.
Rakusa-Suszczewski, Stanisław.
Date: 2004.
In: National Institute of Polar Research. Polar Bioscience. (2004.), Vol. 17 (2004)
Abstract: Presents results of experiments to quantitatively evaluate process of leaching of nitrite, nitrate, ammonium, total nitrogen, reactive and total phosphorous during decomposition of marine macroalgae deposited on shore. About 80% of nutrients were released during first three days in long term experiments lasting 22-69 days, and during first three hours in short term experiments of 11-52 hours duration. Nitrate-N, reactive-P and total-P were liberated most readily.
