Abstract: Considers theories of impending collapse of West Antarctic ice sheet and discusses observations which confirm changes on variety of time scales. Notes that dynamic of ice sheet involves complex interaction of ice that is warm at base and cold along margins of ice streams; subglacial till composed of combination of marine sediment and eroded sedimentary rocks; and water moving primarily between ice and bed, but whose flow direction can differ from direction of ice motion.
