Record #178620:

Perfluorinated chemicals in the Arctic atmosphere / M. Shoeib, T. Harner, P. Vlahos.

Title: Perfluorinated chemicals in the Arctic atmosphere / M. Shoeib, T. Harner, P. Vlahos.
Author(s): Shoeib, M.
Harner, T.
Vlahos, P.
Date: 2006.
Abstract: Analyses 20 high-volume air samples collected during crossing of North Atlantic and Canadian Archipelago in July 2005 to investigate air concentrations of fluorotelomer alcohols (FTOHs) and perfluoroalkyl sulfonamido ethanols. Notes that these chemicals are widely used as surface treatments and believed to be precursors of perfluorocarboxylic acids and perfluorooctane sulfonate that accumulate in humans and biota. Findings confirm model results predicting efficient, long-range atmospheric transport and widespread distribution of FTOHs in Arctic region.
