In: Constructing cultures then and now : celebrating Franz Boas and the Jesup North Pacific Expedition. (2003.),
Abstract: Describes how modern molecular genetic data obtained from aboriginal population of Siberia, in particular those from Chukotka and Kamchatka, can be used to test hypotheses about origins and diversity of eastern Siberians and evolutionary relationships with Native Americans which were discussed in previous Jesup North Pacific studies. Focuses on mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) diversity. Finds that Paleoasiatic-speakers do not appear to be closely related to Native American populations.
