New spruce (Picea spp.) macrofossils from Yukon Territory: implications for Late Pleistocene refugia in eastern Beringia / Grant D. Zazula, A.M. Telka, C.R. Harington, C.E. Schweger, Rolf W. Mathewes.

Title: New spruce (Picea spp.) macrofossils from Yukon Territory: implications for Late Pleistocene refugia in eastern Beringia / Grant D. Zazula, A.M. Telka, C.R. Harington, C.E. Schweger, Rolf W. Mathewes.

Date: 2006.
In: Arctic. (2006.), Vol. 59(4) (2006)
Abstract: Reports new radiocarbon-dated plant macrofossils providing evidence for black spruce (Picea mariana) and white spruce (Picea glauca) within unglaciated Yukon Territory at onset of glacial conditions during Marine Isotope Stage 3/2 transition (26,000 - 24,500 C yr BP). Data indicate that spruce trees were able to reproduce sexually and grow to maturity within glacial environment characterised by widespread steppe vegetation, loess aggredation, and ice-wedge formation.
