Abstract: Uses comprehensive analysis of physical, environmental, operational, social, economic, industrial and geographical aspects of Antarctic tourism industry and its development to argue that present management system is inadequate. Comparison with management of tourism at sub-Antarctic islands and northern polar locations showed very different management of cruise tourism, leading to proposal for use of management planning approach to Antarctic tourism within Antarctic Treaty System framework.
