Confrontation and conciliation: the Sami, the Crown and the court in seventeenth-century Swedish Lapland / Karin Granqvist.

Title: Confrontation and conciliation: the Sami, the Crown and the court in seventeenth-century Swedish Lapland / Karin Granqvist.
Author(s): Granqvist, Karin.
Date: 2004.
In: Acta Borealia. (2004.), Vol. 21(2) (2004)
Abstract: Considers conflicts between Saami and representatives of Swedish Crown in context of legal cases. Notes that, from court rolls of district of Jukkasjärvi, Crown prosecuted Saami for sexual offences and crimes against religion (owing to prevailing ideology of Lutheran Christianity). Also observes that Saami themselves pursued desire for conciliation in cases of crimes such as murder, manslaughter and grand theft, and also in civil cases such as inheritance.
