Abstract: | Examines complex legal issues involving sovereignty over Northwest Passage. Outlines legal positions of Canada and United States regarding Northwest Passage, and explores possible mechanisms for moving beyond current impasse over status. Proposes that legal issues are placed to one side and that consideration is given to related issues for which cooperation is feasible and necessary (environment, security, exploration, protection of resources and shipping). |
